Nobody sees your joinery. They see the gap. One corner a degree and a half out and the whole piece reads amateur from across the room — the finish can’t save it, the wood can’t save it, and sanding definitely can’t save it.
Here’s the mechanism. A pocket screw doesn’t just pull two boards together, it pulls them sideways. Hand pressure loses that fight every time. The joint walks a fraction of a degree while you drive, and by the time you clamp the second corner, the first one has already lied to you.
A square that only shows you 90° is a spectator. SquareLock bolts through six holes per leg — it doesn’t observe the angle, it enforces it.

How do I know it’s actually 90° when it arrives?
Check it in sixty seconds, before you build anything. Set the inside vertex against a known reference — a try square, a jointed board, your table saw fence — and look for light. There won’t be any. Every unit is machined to ±0.1° and inspected before packing. If yours reads out of true against your own reference, we replace it or refund it inside 30 days. This category is full of squares that aren’t square; we’d rather you test ours immediately than find out three projects in.
Will the holes be sloppy and let the square shift?
The bores are chamfered and consistently pitched, and here’s the technique that matters regardless of jig: snug both knobs first, then tighten fully, then check. Shift almost always comes from bolting one leg hard before the other is seated, which levers the square out of position. With twelve clamp vectors you can also run a bar clamp directly over the joint line and take the load off the knobs entirely.
Are the included clamps going to be junk?
Straight answer: the hardware is a steel J-bolt on a threaded rod with a composite star knob. It’s built to hold position, not to generate cabinet-clamp pressure. It will lock a corner square and keep it there while you drive fasteners. For a wide panel glue-up needing real force, run your own bar or F-clamps through the hole field — the square is designed to accept them. We’d rather tell you up front than let you find out.
Won’t glue weld it to my workpiece?
No. The anodized face doesn’t bond to PVA, and the relief cut at the inside corner gives squeeze-out somewhere to go instead of pooling under the leg. Wipe with a damp rag while wet and it comes off clean. Dried glue pops off with a plastic scraper — anodizing doesn’t scratch out like paint does.
Aluminium? Shouldn’t this be steel?
Steel rusts on a humid bench, then stains everything it touches. It also galls softwood and adds weight you fight while positioning one-handed. This is a solid machined block, not folded sheet — it holds geometry under clamp load, resists corrosion, and stays light enough to place with one hand while the other holds a driver. Aluminium is the correct material here, not the cheap one.
What stock thickness does it handle?
From thin frame stock up through standard cabinet ply and dimensional lumber. The 120 mm and 140 mm legs give you a long registration face on both sides of the joint, which is what actually controls racking — a short bracket only touches an inch of your board and lets the rest wander. For very deep stock, clamp two squares back to back on the same corner.
